PlayStation 6: Rumors, Release Date, and What to Expect

Sony has not officially revealed the PlayStation 6, but development of its next-generation gaming platform is already underway. Based on official comments and credible reports, the PS6 could arrive around 2028.
Expected Release Date
A 2028 launch currently seems most likely, although late 2027 is still possible. Sony has increased spending on future PlayStation hardware, while PlayStation architect Mark Cerny has discussed technologies designed for a console arriving "in a few years."
More Powerful AMD Hardware
AMD is widely expected to build the PS6 processor, continuing the partnership used for the PS4 and PS5. Staying with a similar architecture should also make backward compatibility easier.
Rumors suggest the console could use a newer AMD Zen processor and next-generation Radeon graphics, but no technical specifications have been confirmed.
Better Graphics Through AI
The PS6 will likely focus heavily on AI-assisted graphics rather than simply increasing raw processing power.
